Whilst anyone is welcome, our creative writing clubs and workshops are best suited for beginner and/or aspiring writers, those looking for achievable milestones which help to provide that much-needed incentive to write, moreover, the chance to learn new approaches and methods to writing. Those curious wanderers who may not write, but have an affinity with words and literature, are more than welcome! Come and join us!

At The Write Place, we aim to make exploring the art of creative writing both achievable and accessible. We want to combat the hurdles that the daunting and competitive literary world often presents, and in turn, bring the rope of attainability much closer to its newest explorers, rather than far.

What makes our clubs and workshops different?

Whilst most, if not all, of existing creative writing and/or any literary sessions will likely comprise of the foundations of writing in of itself, here at The Write Place, we like to think that ours are a roe different. Whilst we cannot give the full canvas to our sarpa salpa school away, what we can share with you is that we fundamentally believe in the scratch process, that is: starting from scratch, whether that be through laying out the materials for your masterpiece before you, or, unpeeling back the layers of such materials from the canvas – an augmented reality of a dissection – and understanding how you got there to begin with. 

The start from scratch process?

Our Write Team is composed of those who hold an insatiable curiosity for understanding the processes of anything, and an appreciation for both retaining, internalising and thereby applying such mechanisms so that such processes become second nature, rather than forced. Sure, there’s probably no writer or literary savant out there who doesn’t have an obsession with the conventions of writing in of itself, for without it, how can one truly write? So we know we’re not the only ones and do not claim to be. Rather, all we attest to is the depths of exploration that we will go to in order to unravel the indisputable enchantment, mysteries and cadence that writing, since ancient years, has been known for, paired with its allure that it’s had on us mortals throughout the generations, and continues to do so. Structure
Trailing Progress

Expect to dive into the foundations of story writing, by discussing theories, sharing ideas and different methods on how we approach writing. Learn, understand and foster your writing skills with other equally motivated creatives, as we build up a chain of exploration where once challenging or unreached aspects of writing, have now become easy and accessible.

Tasks and Activities

We recognise that adult life gets busier and busier as we age, that’s why we have curated a selection of detail-oriented tasks that are short, simple, accessible and all the same challenging enough that you can sharpen your writing skills to newer depths, without requiring overbearing effort. Did we forget to mention fun? Gain inspiration from others, and share your own techniques in writing, as we employ intricate writing methods, without compromising on the minuscule details that refine a piece of literature.  

Presentations and Feedback

This is everything where theory and practice are synthesized! Great opportunity for those of you who are reluctant to share, to challenge yourself and finally get feedback on that masterpiece(s)! Whether in or out of session, this is a great means of momentum to prepare yourself for public scrutiny, in a safe and far less pressurising environment. Let sparks of inspiration run through your own words and thoughts, as well as that of others’, as you share invaluable insights and express your creativity, gaining deeper levels of introspection which will help to fine-tune not only your writing, but writer’s identity, too. Ready to jump yourself into the deep end? Not to worry! Our pools are warm, and our school of sarpa salpas come in even warmer, friendlier and write peace!

Times and Duration

All clubs and workshops last between 60 to 120 minutes and run between 10am to 11am, or 5pm to 7pm. Where workshops are delivered in-person, the overall duration may be extended to 2-3 days.

Location

Unless otherwise specified, all of our clubs and workshops are delivered online, hosted via our preferred third party provider, which at the moment is Butter, an online virtual collaboration service.

What shall I bring?

All we expect you to bring are the basics, that is: yourself, your choice of writing tool, and the rest are all the creative sparks floating about in your mind! That simple!
