Submissions

Hooray for The Write Place Submissions!

Now’s your chance to send us a submission and share your Affinity with words with the world!

You’ve stuck around this long and have decided to send us your creativity? Or maybe you’ve had a look at our annual themes and are ready to give one (or perhaps all of them) a shot? Whatever your motivation, we respond with a big and write awesome! You are the creatives we’re looking for and you have definitely come to The Write Place at the right time, (let’s pause for a moment and take a second to appreciate that serendipity!)

Now you creative sarpa salpas are ready to delve into the inky pods, and unleash something spectacular, right? Right! Of course you are!

But hold up! Just before you proceed to let your superpowers be known, please take a moment to read through our full guidelines and agreements – yes, we know, the nit and gritty, long and boring but very important stuff – so you’re aware of everything you need to know before you share your work.

Once you’ve read it, please complete a submission form below and send us your masterpiece, or pieces! You can submit work for fiction and non-fiction at the moment. Photography submissions are underway. Click the following links to read our full submission guidelines and terms of service.

Happy writing, and we wish you the best of luck!

Before submitting any work, please ensure that you fully read through our terms of service, cookie and privacy policy statements.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

The Write Place only accept submissions via our online submission forms. Fortunately, in an attempt to go greener, we do not accept submissions via post. We are looking for unconventional, fun, creative pieces of fiction that bite back and leave our taste-buds inquisitive and hungry – so please give us something you really believe is a worthwhile read! All submissions must indicate a complete story, (some sort of conclusion to the peak in action or rising conflict that is occurring) though that doesn’t mean you have to state it: be creative! Please understand that this mainly applies to works of drama and prose only. For the most part, poetry is always flowery – exactly the point!)

All literary genres are welcome, be that drama, poetry or prose, so long as it is an original work of fiction and meets our guidelines. Generally, all genres explored must be clean and align with our values. The same applies to secondary genre styles, i.e. horror, romance, sci-fi, etc. Stories which include sub-genres are also accepted, so don’t feel hesitant if your work doesn’t fit exactly into one style. All fictitious submissions must have an evident approach and acknowledgement of any of our annual themes that you base your work on, (see our post Annual Themes 2025 for more). If not, your work risks being rejected. If we receive a submission with a wrong theme, unfortunately we will not accept it. Expository work does not need to be theme-based. Please read more about our accepted genres on our full submission guidelines.

We accept multiple submissions but you can only submit 1 entry per category, so please give us your best work! You can read more about multiple submissions and word counts on our full submission guidelines page. Please do not send us any duplicated material.

Whilst our site is YA friendly, our readership is adult and you must be of the age 18 years or above in order to submit any work. Having said that, we do accept children’s fiction so long as it has a mature approach and can essentially be relevant to adults as well. These must also be relevant to our annual themes. Please don’t forget!

It should go without mentioning that all work submitted to The Write Place must be yours and original pieces of literature, and should not, in any way, be in any breach of copyright infringement laws. The same rules apply to submitting photography. We do not accept previously published works, and unfortunately, that also includes any work that has been published on a personal site or platform with public access (i.e. blog, online portfolio, social media/networking sites, e.g. Wattpad, Twitter, Instagram, Upwork or other freelance sites, etc). This is considered published and is therefore inappropriate for our market line.

* Exceptions to this may be reserved for members of The Write Team

Please ensure that all submitted work is proofread prior to submission as we cannot guarantee that we’ll always have time to proof-read or edit any work before publication; if there are mistakes, this may result in your submission being rejected. Having said this, if the mistakes are minor grammatical and spelling errors, we may decide to clean it up for you, subject to your permission. (Hey, we’re all human and everyone makes mistakes! So do we! Can you spot any yet?) Subject to the editing team, necessary adjustments may be made, and these will always be confirmed first with you.

We require you to construct a 40-50 words bio since this will detail your authorship and anything else you feel is necessary. We definitely encourage it, and unfortunately cannot write bios in your stead. Please be creative! For suggestions, you can reference our default bio (The Write Bio) as a template: Author Name, Age, from State/Province, City, Country, writes this Genre piece of fiction/poetry/play/playlet/prose. Author Name has been writing for Amount Weeks/Months/Years. Her/His favourite genre is Genre. Her/His favourite author is Author. He/She mostly enjoys writing Style/Literary Genre. (Please note: If you complete the age field on the submission form, but forget to disclose it in your bio, our editing team will make the necessary amendments so please bear that in mind.) Our default bio is only a guide, so please don’t state that you’ve written a piece of fiction in a photography or expository form!

As you can see, our default bio is pretty basic and nothing short of apex, so please do write a bio for yourself or if you can’t, why not ask a friend or family to help you out? We don’t mind! If you wish to submit a work under a pseudonym, please complete the pen name field (it is not mandatory); you will still need to include your real name in the form however, otherwise we wouldn’t know who the work really belongs to! If we select your work, your pen name will be published alongside your work instead of your real name. (Please also leave the age field marked blank should you wish for your age to be omitted. Age is not a mandatory field.) Click on the following link to read more on pen names and age.

Our submission season runs between the 15th of August to the 15th October annually. All submissions must be completed and sent by 23:59 British Winter Time (BWT). Please kindly take your time to read our full submission guidelines thoroughly, and please understand that not adhering to our conditions may risk your work being rejected.
